Moodle for Teachers - Learn to Teach Online 

M4TL2TO - EVO22


 

 


 

Abstract:  

This is the 10th anniversary of the annual M4TEVO session now called M4TL2TO. - EVO22 The first M4TEVO session started in 2012. The goal of the M4TL2TO - EVO22 session is to introduce the participants to a learning management system called Moodle for face-to-face, blended (hybrid), and fully online programs such as courses, MOOCs. webinars, conferences, workshops, and interactive electronic journals and books.

 

M4TL2TO - EVO22 will take place on the latest Moodle 3.11.2 version with 100s of applications or plugins for activities and resources. Participants will learn how to teach online using resources, activities, and blocks available in a Moodle course and other online tools as students and practice as a teacher and manager of a course. They will learn to engage in team peer learning, create video tutorials using Screencast-o-Matic, Vimeo, LOOM, Flipgrid, Awesome, and ZOOM (screen recording) to document their learning and to use the videos in a flipped classroom.

 

In weeks 2 - 5, participants will work collaboratively to create a team policy and syllabus using Google docs and develop their own Moodle courses. They will also learn to manage their own Moodle courses  using virtual online classes such as Jitsi, Big Blue Button (BBB), and MS Teams directly from their Moodle course. 

 

Weekly digital badges and a final certificate will be available for participants who complete the tasks.  


 

Target audience:

  • Teachers of any subject area or age group (young to adult learners)

  • Anyone interested in developing and teaching online courses for blended and/or fully online learning programs or the flipped classroom (paid and free courses).  

 

 

 


 

Session objectives: 

By the end of the workshop learners should be able to:

  • Manage & edit course settings

  • Manage enrolment methods and enrol users

  • Create and edit basic activities, resources, and use blocks 

  • Create video tutorials

  • Collaborate and engage with peers

  • Create a course in a Moodle course area using the tools

  • Earn one badge each week (5 in all)

 

 


 

Syllabus:


 

Week 1: (January 10 - 16) Introduction and Orientation

 

Week 1 Introduction to M4TL2TO - EVO22, Moodle layout and to the participants, Screencast-o-Matic and Vimeo for screen recording to create video tutorials, and team formation.

  • Moodle as a platform designed for team peer learning and learner autonomy  

  • Interactive discussions for information sharing and effective team building tools.

  • Introduction to Screencast-o-Matic,  LOOM, Flipgrid, Awesome (Chrome Extension) and Vimeo to create video tutorials

  • Learn and Teach with Moodle

  • Learn to navigate a Moodle course, use the rich editor, and record audio and video using PoodLL and the recorder, navigate and update personal Moodle profile, and post to the online discussion forums.

  • Discuss the meaning of student engagement and brainstorm ideas for collaborative lessons and projects.

  • Team formation for team peer learning

  • Choose a course topic for the collaborative course.   

 

 


 

Week 2: (January 17 - 23) Moodle Resources and Activities

 

In week 2, participants will receive teacher and manager rights, so you can try out the resources and activities available in a Moodle course in the Teacher Practice Area (TPA). They will receive team areas to practice adding resources and activities available on the Moodle. 

 

  • Compare the resources and activities in a Moodle course

  • Discuss the role of a teacher in the classroom and in a Moodle course 

  • Explore Moodle Tools in the Teacher Practice Area (TPA)

  • Document the resources available in the TPA by creating video tutorials using Screencast-o-Matic, LOOM, Vimeo, Flipgrid, or Awesome and publishing them on Youtube and/or Vimeo 

  • Document the activities available in the TPA by creating video tutorials using Screencast-o-Matic, LOOM, Vimeo, Flipgrid, or Awesome and publishing videos on Youtube and/or Vimeo. 

 

 


 

Week 3: (January 24 - 30) Moodle Blocks and Planning a Collaborative Online Course

 

In week 3, participants will receive rights as managers of a Moodle course and work on the blocks. They will practice in the Block Practice Area (BPA). They will also start working on their collaborative courses. 

  • Discuss the role of a manager of a school and in a Moodle course

  • Explore Moodle Tools in the Block Practice Area (BPA)

  • Document the blocks available on Moodle in the main course area as a student.

  • Document the blocks available in the block practice area (BPA) as a manager of the course by showing how to add blocks. 

  • Prepare a collaborative teamwork policy and a syllabus for their course.

 


 

Week 4: (January 31 - February 6) Collaborative Course Design

 

In weeks 3 - 5, participants will work in teams to design a collaborative course. They will document the process using Screencast-o-Matic, LOOM, Vimeo, Flipgrid, or Awesome and publish the recording as a team on Youtube or Vimeo. 

Participants will learn to create and use digital badges and create certificates for their courses that relate to the activities of their Moodle courses. 

 


 

Week 5: (February 7 - 13) Showcase and Reflections

 

In week 5, participants will create videos to document their courses, reflect, and share them on Padlet, Wakelet, Lino, Miro or any other curation tool and provide feedback using Flipgrid (video).
