Technology For Spoken English 








Many English language teachers and their students are unable to speak English fluently and accurately. Technology can facilitate the process by providing practice. This EVO22 session provides the tools to practice and improve spoken English with fluency and accuracy. Participants of Technology for Spoken English (T4SE) will be introduced to various web and mobile technologies to help learners practice speaking skills



Target audience:


English language teachers to learners of all age groups



Session objectives: 


By the end of this session:

  1. Participants will have become familiar with various web and mobile technologies that facilitate spoken English.
  2. Participants will have practiced various technologies to enhance speaking skills. 
  3. Participants will have reflected on the various tools. 






Week 1: (January 10 - 16) 


In week 1, participants will:


  1. get acquainted with each other, the moderators, and the platform Padlet, Voicethread, and Voki.  
  2. discuss language apps in the classroom.  
  3. sign up for free accounts on 





Week 2: (January 17 - 23)


In week  2, participants will:

Week 3: (January 24 - 30)


In week 3, participants will: learn about and try out various language apps for listening and speaking practice. discuss and reflect on the tools and how they apply to learning outcomes. Various Language Tools to Improve Language Speaking Skills:

Week 4: (January 31 - February 6)


In week 4, participants will create a story with characters and share their work using Toontastic on their iPads or iPhone or Tablets and android phones. They will also do an activity called Read Aloud. They will read a poem by Billy Collins called Introduction to Poetry and listen to a rap of the poem by Jason R. Levine. 





Week 5: (February 7 - 13)


In week 5, participants will showcase and reflect on 5 tools used in weeks 1-4.  They will use a curation wall/board of their choice for the reflections. They will also fill in a feedback survey.  Once they complete the tasks, they will be able to access the certificate of participation.

Nellie Deutsch

Nellie Deutsch (Ed.D) mentors educators worldwide. She’s had experience as an English teacher in public schools & colleges (over 40 years) & has integrated technology (computer room) in high school since 1992.  She offers free annual online professional developments courses and webinars on Moodle for Teachers. Course topics include learner autonomy (online and face-to-face) with technology & self-care with mindfulness & the Alexander technique. She applies process based team peer learning, supportive learner autonomy teaching & technologies such as Moodle, Google Classroom, Padet, Wakelet, SMORE Fieldtrip, Quizlet, Kahoot, Voki, Flipgrid, ZOOM, Jitsi, Screencast-o-matic, Vimeo, Nearpod, Quizizz, MeritHub & Google drive. She founded the annual Moodle & Virtual World MOOCs & online conferences (CO09-CO21) (MMVC11-21). She’s on the TESOL CALL-IS committee & EVO coordinating team. 


Sudarshana Shirude


Sudarshana Shirude :  She has been working as a primary teacher in a government school of Maharashtra in India since 2004. She has passed her masters degree in English. She teaches English, Science and Mathematics to her students. She is working as a tag coordinator of TEJAS project run by the British council in Maharashtra {India} to facilitate the teachers for their CPD. She had worked as the MOOC coordinator for Spoken English online course for government teachers. Recently she has presented her exploratory action research and also guided her colleague for her research as a mentor through the EMAR project. 


Ms. Suchita Mahorkar


Ms. Suchita R. Mahorkar, basically a high-school teacher, working as teacher educator in projects lead by British Council and by state institute of English, Maharashtra, on various levels from developer, trainer, monitor and evaluator. She has presented at AINET international conference, successfully run EAR project in guidance with Dr. Richard Smith, co-moderated EVO session with Dr. Nellie madam.

Ajita Ganjale India I am a primary teacher from Maharashtra,India.I have started my career as a government primary teacher in the year 2001. I am a graduate teacher fond of arranging many new creative activities in my class..I have done much Innovative programmes and also got the very  good results there. Working as a Tag coordinator for British Council project running in Maharashtra, understanding and studying the barriers of speaking English language and trying to overcome them with some exercises and activities.Recently I have successfully completed my Exploratory Action Research and also presented it.In this EMAR project, I worked as a mentor and guided my colleagues for the action research.
